Dear Editor: The dance troupe Shen Yun has leased our Overture Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 19 and will perform there.
Sadly, there are serious allegations of ill treatment of child performers and other labor violations by Shen Yun. Unbelievably, the organization claims they do not need to observe U.S. labor law because performers are not employees but are benefitting from a learning opportunity.
Shen Yun is under criminal investigation by several federal agencies and is being sued by former performers. Let this be the last time Shen Yun gets an audience in Madison.
All employers who exploit children should be held accountable for their crimes against young people.
